Source: Getty Images So far in 2011, the storm of the hurricane season is Irene, at landfall a Category 1 storm, now a tropical storm affecting the eastern U.S. between August 26 and August 29.The storm smashed into North Carolina on Saturday, made a second landfall on the Jersey shore followed by Long Island early Sunday morning. It's now working it's way up New England. CNBC.com will be updating this slideshow with fresh images of the storm as they come in, illustrating the events of Hurricane Irene as it happens.
