Thirty companies in the S&P 500 are trading below $10 a share and have a market-cap valuation between $849 million and $64.9 billion.

This marks a 67 percent increase from June 2, 2011, our last update, when only 18 companies traded in the single digits. Since then, the S&P 500 is down nearly 8 percent, while the 18 stocks on the list have posted an average loss of 26 percent.

At the current levels, Sprint has the lowest share price, followed by Regions Financial and Tellabs.

As a group, the thirty-lowest priced stocks in the S&P index are down 36 percent year-to-date, compared to a 15 percent gain for the thirty-highest priced.

Here is a look at 18 companies with a market capitalization greater than $1 billion and a share price below $10 dollars.
