Region’s Top Leaders Named at the 10th CNBC Asia Business Leaders Awards

Singapore, 24 November, 2011 – CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, pioneered the Asian Business Leaders Awards to acknowledge exceptional CEOs across the region. Recipients of the awards are stellar individuals, who are visionaries behind today’s outstanding businesses. Asia Business Leader AwardMr. Carlos Ghosn, Chairman & CEO, Nissan Motor Co Ltd for inspiring growth for his company, while keeping in step with global trends.

Lifetime Achievement Award – N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman Emeritus, Infosys whose vision and management abilities have helped steer his company successfully both regionally and in the global marketplace.

Asia Innovator AwardMr. Richard Tsai, Chairman, Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd for his leadership in an organization that has innovation at its very core.

Asia Talent Management Award Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, President & CEO, PTT nominated for his role as President of IRPC PCL for his personal involvement in supporting and nurturing leadership within the company.

Corporate Social Responsibility AwardMs. Chanda Kochhar, Managing Director & CEO, ICICI Bank for her ability to translate the company’s success into benefits for the community.

Asia’s Viewers Choice Award – Mr. Ganesh Avyar, CEO of MphasiS Ltd who received the most votes by CNBC’s viewers in Asia Pacific.

Asia Business Leader Award 2011
The Asia Business Leader of the Year is awarded to Carlos Ghosn of Nissan Motor for inspiring growth for his company, while keeping in step with global trends. Nissan Motor, Japan’s second-largest automotive industry, operates globally with more than 248,000 employees. Mr. Ghosn is the CEO of Nissan’s unique partnership with Renault, the Renault-Nissan Alliance, and he holds the same position in each company individually. Mr. Ghosn is adept at defining a strategic vision and leading his company through a clearly defined vision for the future. After becoming CEO of Nissan in 1999, when the company was near bankruptcy, Mr. Ghosn led a turnaround of legendary proportions. In recent months, since Japan suffered the effects of an earthquake, he has continued to find solutions for the company that have resulted in Nissan Motors leading all Japanese automakers toward hitting their normal production numbers, a feat expected to be accomplished by Nissan in Sept/Oct 2011.

Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Awardgoes to N.R. Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys whose vision and management abilities have helped steer his company successfully both regionally and in the global marketplace. Mr. Murthy founded Infosys in 1981 and served as the CEO and as the Chairman and Chief Mentor until 2011, during which time the company was listed on the NASDAQ. He articulated, designed and implemented the Global Delivery Model, which has become the foundation for the huge success in IT services outsourcing from India and led key corporate governance initiatives in India. Mr. Murthy is an IT advisor to several Asian countries and serves on the boards of HSBC, Ford Foundation and the UN Foundation. He also served as a member of the Unilever board between 2007 and 2010, among others. Mr.Murthy topped the Economic Times list of India’s most powerful CEO’s for three consecutive years in 2004 to 2006. He has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India, the Legion d’honneur by the Government of France, and the CBE by the British government. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and a foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He has about 25 honorary doctorates from universities in India and abroad.

Asia Innovator Award 2011
The Asia Innovator of the Year Award recognizes Mr. Richard Tsai of Taiwan Mobile for his leadership in an organization that has innovation at its very core. Mr. Tsai champions organizational change and presents novel solutions to business challenges. Mr. Tsai has provided leadership throughout Taiwan Mobile’s transition from a telecom company to a digital convergence company, helping to bridge the communication gaps that occur during such a major shift. The changes have led to seeing Taiwan Mobile become the first company in the world to pioneer new efforts that include the integration of music with social networks and location-based social networking. His focus on skillful communication has gone a long way in facilitating smooth operations between domestic and foreign operators in a highly competitive high-tech industry.

Asia Talent Management Award 2011
The Asia Talent Management goes to IRPC Thailand’s Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn for his personal involvement in supporting and nurturing leadership within the company. IRPC is a pioneer company, Southeast Asia’s first integrated petrochemical business. Dr. Pailin began his career in academic work, and now combines scholarship with his petrochemical expertise to develop leadership in Thailand’s third largest oil refinery company. Dr. Pailin identifies and mentors key leadership talent in IRPC. Under his guidance, IRPC revamped its scholarship and formal education programs in 2009, both ensuring that the organization has the necessary knowledge and skills to support its growth and future direction and to motivate and retain deserving, capable associates by providing them opportunities to develop and grow professionally. Dr. Pailin believes that everyone has the potential to grow and perform at high levels, and he initiates the systems that encourage them to do so.

Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2011
The Corporate Social Responsibility Award acknowledges Ms. Chanda Kochhar of ICICI for her ability to translate the company’s success into benefits for the community. Ms. Kochhar recognizes opportunities to have a potential impact, and makes societal impact a corporate priority, aligning her corporate strategy with an awareness of the possible social impact. ICICI’s Social Initiatives Group, a nonprofit organization set up within the company in 2000, pioneers work in health, education, and access to financial assistance.

Asia Viewers Choice Award 2011
TheAsia’s Viewers Choice Awardgoes to Mr. Ganesh Avyar, CEO of MphasiS Limited. This award is determined by CNBC’s viewers from across the Asia Pacific region, and Mr. Avyar received the highest number of votes from CNBC’s viewers.
