Despite being one of the biggest musical stars of the moment Lady Gaga isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and has been helping out at her dad's new Italian restaurant.

The Bad Romance star recently helped her dad, Joe Germanotta, set up the eatery — Joanne Trattoria — in New York.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "It's a real family effort. They've all been getting stuck in."

Gaga, who comes from an Italian family, has gone back to her roots and has even advised her dad on what to serve. The dishes include a number of family recipes such as ten-layer lasagna, Grandma Rosie's Meatballs, mini-martinis and Nutella doughnuts.

In a recent interview with Katie Couric during her TV special, "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving", the "Poker Face singer" said: "My dad and I opened up a restaurant together and it's called Joanne.

"Watching my dad put up the awning in front of 68th Street two blocks from where I grew up in a beautiful brownstone area where they make Italian food, and to watch him open the restaurant of his dreams and have it called Joanne after his sister, that's wealth. That's the dream."

However, while her dad is happy to let Lady Gaga boil the pasta, he is hoping she keeps away from the knives.

According to The Sun, he said: "She's left-handed and every time I watch her chop, it makes me cringe."
