LinkedIn has acquired the email start-up company Rapportive, its CEO announced Wednesday in a blog post.

Rapportive, a service that links with Gmail to show you the most recent social network updates of your contacts in your inbox, will continue to exist under LinkedIn's ownership and to build products, CEO Rahul Vohra said.

Rumors of acquisition started to appear in early February after a report from AllThingsD.TechCrunch is reporting that LinkedIn paid $15 million for Rapportive. Rapportive could not be reached for comment.
