In our latest installment of Fast Money portfolio, Karen Finerman explains why she’s bullish Staples for the long-term.
As president of Metropolitan Capital, Finerman is a well-respected value investor who does her homework and puts money to work accordingly.
After examining the latest Staples earnings report, Finerman is convinced that although the stock was a big loser on Wednesday, it’s a long term winner.
Here are some of the catalysts:
1) Recovery in US employment and small business
2) Recovery in Europe.
3) Operating margin improvement
4) Potential consolidation in the space
5) Free cash flow generation
If you can buy and hold the stock for a year or more Finerman is convinced this stock is a buy.
“People always talk about the threat from Amazon, but they don't know that Staples is the number 2 internet retailer in the world,” she explains. In other words, Staples doesn't just generate sales from the brick and mortar stores.
“Also, they have a great management team and the stock pays a dividend. At less than 10 times earnings I think there’s real value here.”
