As it turns out, a solid long term strategy may have as much to do with art, as it does science or anything else.

At least that’s what we concluded after hearing from widely followed investor Asher Edelman, the man the Wall Street Journal once called “the pioneer of the leveraged buyout” and CEO of ArtAssure Ltd.

He tells us that the art market is growing rapidly and that art is an asset class that should attract more and more investors, no matter what happens in the stock market.

Trader Karen Finerman is also an aficionado and shares Edelman’s enthusiasm.

Finerman thinks the trade is long Sotheby’s. Not only is it a unique property but it’s also a play on global wealth creation,” she says.

Back in February, Finerman pointed to two trends in support of herbullish art thesis. They follow:

1) Among the rich, “Art is now considered a store of value. Investors are looking all around the world for things to own; things such as gold and paper currencies. Art is becoming an accepted store of value. That’s an incredibly macro-dynamic," she says.

2) Sotheby’s is one of only two companies that dominate the auction industry. The other is Christies. “It’s effectively a duopoly. The competitive dynamic is fascinating and favorable,” says Finerman.
