AIG, Southwestern and Other Tradable Movers

Friday, 4 May 2012 | 3:51 PM ET

Following are midday movers you might have missed.

Find out what’s going up, what’s going down and whether our traders would double down, fade or run in the other direction!

AIG

The catalyst: AIG grew profit sharply in the first quarter with gains driven by improved performance at its Chartis and SunAmerica insurance units.

The trade: “This is a difficult call, says Anthony Scaramucci. "If you like the stock long-term, play it with options to limit your risk."

-----------------------

Southwestern Energy

The catalyst:Southwestern said first-quarter profit dropped 21% as the energy producer saw softer realized natural gas prices and higher expenses weaken margins.

The trade: "Energy is under pressure broadly," says Pete Najarian. "Stay away."

-----------------------

Micron

The catalyst: Published reports said Micron would be the likely winner in the bidding for failed Japanese chipmaker Elpida Memory for $2.5 billion.

The trade: "That’s positive for Micron," says Steve Grasso.

-----------------------

Herbalife

The catalyst:Herbalife, which has now lost about a third of its value since billionaire investor David Einhorn raised his questions in a post-earnings conference call on Tuesday, said it would buy back about $428 million worth of shares because it felt they were undervalued.

The trade: "I think the stock is putting in a floor," says trader Patty Edwards. "I think it’s safe to start nibbling."
