Former Democratic Congressman Artur Davis blasted his former party Friday for what he called “a fixation on leveling out the economy.”

Claiming there were “a lot of reasons” for his switch to the Republican Party, the Alabama politician said on CNBC’s “The Kudlow Report” that the simplest one was this:

“The Democratic Party is no longer a party that fixates on growth. It’s a party that fixates on trying to level out conditions in America. That’s a perspective, but I think it is the wrong perspective for the challenges we face.”

A Right Turn to the GOP
Artur Davis, former democratic congressman, explains why he has deserted the democrats and made a right turn towards the GOP.

“The Democratic Party that I used to know was a pro-growth party that believed if you maximized prosperity that prosperity will be shared, prosperity will spread,” he said. “There used to be a growth agenda. Now the agenda is more mandates, more taxes, more threats of taxes from businesses, more regulations for businesses.”

Davis, who made a failed 2010 bid to capture the Democratic nomination for governor in Alabama, has been selected to speak at the Republican National Convention.

Asked what would be his focus at the event, Davis said it was because some Americans didn’t get what they wanted.

“There are 7 million of us who voted for Barack Obama who are traveling in a different direction because we didn’t get the unified country we wanted, we didn’t get the results we wanted on the economic front,” he said.
