JetBlue to Launch Free, In-Flight Wi-Fi in 2013

Popular low-cost airline JetBlue will soon offer in-flight Wi-Fi for passengers—and it will initially be free.

JetBlue says it will offer in-flight connectivity for free in the beginning—until at least 30 planes have been equipped with high-speed satellites. Robin Hayes, JetBlue's chief commercial officer, announced the news this week, according to a blog post on JetBlue's website.

The new service is expected to be online in early 2013. No details have been released on pricing for the in-flight Wi-Fi service.

The limited, free Wi-Fi service will make JetBlue the first U.S. carrier to offer free in-flight connectivity.

JetBlue currently offers passengers 37 channels of free DirecTV in-flight entertainment. Additional premium programming costs $5.99.
