Romney Needs to Get Tougher on Obama: Trump
Mitt Romney will need to get tougher if he’s going to beat President Barack Obama in the election, Donald Trump said during his weekly call with CNBC’s “Squawk Box”on Tuesday.
“Mitt will have to get very tough, be very smart, because they’re being so vicious,” Trump, a Romney supporter, said of the Obama campaign.
“Anytime you say anything about Obama, they immediately say ‘how dare you say that,’” Trump said.
The debates, which start Oct. 3, could also be pivotal and Romney needs to have another performance like he had during the Florida primaries, Trump said.
“He had to go to Florida, and if he did didn't win Florida, it was going to be over,” Trump said. “He went to Florida under great pressure and great stress [and] won two debates against Newt Gingrich and others, but against Newt in particular who is a great debater, as we all know.”
Trump characterized that week as Romney’s best of the campaign.
“Now if he can do that again in the debates and especially the first one, I think he'll do great because this president should be down at least 10 to 12 points based on his performance,” Trump added.
"With a month and a half to go, it will be very interesting to see what happens," he said
