Although Apple still has not confirmed that it's making a smaller iPad, a new report claims that the tech giant has already ordered more than 10 million units of the smaller tablet.

Asian component makers that supply parts to make Apple devices told the Wall Street Journal that the company has already ordered the 10 million plus units for the fourth quarter. Suppliers also leaked to the WSJ last weekthat the smaller tablet was already in production and that the tablet's screen measures about 7.85 inches. A smaller Apple tablet would be a direct competitor with Amazon'sKindle Fire and Google's Nexus 7.

Reports have also circulated that Apple will announce a press event Oct. 10 to launch the smaller tablet, but Apple has not confirmed an event date yet.
