Stocks dipped at the open Tuesday ahead of what many expect will be a weak earnings season.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined at the open after snapping a three-day win streak in the previous session.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also slipped at the open. The CBOE Volatility Index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, traded above 15.

So, will earnings be better-than-expected?
