BP came off its highs after the oil giant agreed to pay a record $4.5 billion fine to settle with the U.S. government over the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Monster Beverage lost ground following news that federal officials have received reports of 13 deaths over the last four years that cited the possible involvement of its rival, 5-Hour Energy drink. Last month, Monster Energy's own energy drink had been linked to some deaths.
Dollar Tree moved higher after the retailer handed in an upbeat outlook.
