Shoppers have dramatically upped their spending plans in the past week with 17% saying they plan to spend more than a year ago, according to the latest CNBC Holiday Central survey.
CNBC's Steve Liesman broke down the numbers on "Squawk Box", saying the third and final version of the survey was positive for retailers because consumers had increased their spending plans since the last survey was taken a week ago. The survey showed a 30% increase in spending plans from a week ago.
Among the survey's other findings: Married men will be the biggest spenders, doling out more than $1200 this season; some 7% of all shoppers plan to take on more debt.
If you haven't finished your shopping yet, don't worry, you're in good company. The CNBC survey says 38% of those polled have done most -- but not all -- of their shopping. About 43% have bought all their gifts.
