Kesa Electricals Reports Holiday Sales Up 6.4%

Kesa Electricals, the owner of Britain's Comet and France's Darty electronics goods chains, reported Thursday that total sales over the holiday period rose 8.1%, driven by strong demand for flat-screen televisions, laptop computers and white goods.

The company's like-for-like sales - those at stores open at least a year - rose 6.4% compared with last year, it said in a statement. Kesa defines the holiday period as Nov. 1 to Jan. 8.

"Margin mix during the period followed the trends observed throughout the year," Chief Executive Jean-Noel Labroue said in a statement.

Kesa, which reports its annual results on March 21, did not provide any profit figures.
