The One-Armed Bandit

The search for Fast Money doesn't end with a look at a chart or a report. Sometimes, you've got to get your hands dirty, very dirty. Eric Bolling sifts through landfills or digs in coal mines; just be grateful you’re not him. And, this time he really went into the thick of things. Wait, he’s at a casino??

Eric explains his dirty trade is in the gaming industry because of major changes coming in slot machines! (Slots generate 75% of the $55 billion in annual gaming revenue.) Forget those one-armed bandits of days gone by, smarter slot machines are on the horizon.

Smart slots might recognize the gambler's name, take their drink orders and even sell them show tickets. The hope is that these machines will allow gamblers to spend more time at the tables.

Dylan Ratigan asks what’s the trade?

Eric likes WMS Industries (WMS) because they make slot machines and Giga Media Limited (GIGM) which develops gaming software.

Richard Haddrill, the CEO of Bally Technologies (BYI) joins the panel for this conversation. His company is one of the leading suppliers of smart slot machines.

Mr. Haddrill says the return on investment for a smart slot is phenomenal.

Dylan asks why there aren’t more of them?

Mr. Haddrill explains they’re coming. And the sales pipeline is strong.

Karen Finerman says she thought there was an aversion to slots in Macao – is that an area for a lot of growth?

Mr. Haddrill explains that Asian love to gamble and are starting to love slots. And as Macao becomes more of a family destination the demand for slots increases.
