CNBC Europe, the leading pan-European business and financial TV channel, has appointed Andrea James to the position of Network Manager, Southern Europe.
Andrea will be responsible for increasing distribution of CNBC Europe in southern European markets including France, Greece, Italy and Spain as well as parts of Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She will also work to build and maintain relationships with cable and satellite operators and be responsible for distribution of the channel through new media and mobile initiatives including, IPTV, broadband and mobile.
Andrea joins from CNBC Asia where, for the last two years, she was senior manager for network distribution. There she negotiated and agreed subscription-based sales deals and managed relationships for CNBC Asia and the MGM channel with cable and satellite operators in South East Asia. She was also instrumental in launching their video-on-demand mobile content service.
In her new role, Andrea will report to Martin Kay, director of business development at CNBC Europe, who commented, "Southern Europe has a lot of important and growing markets for us and its great to have someone who not only knows our business very well, but someone who also brings strong mobile and new media expertise, which are also important growth areas for us."
The appointment comes at a time when CNBC Europe continues to grow its distribution and audience figures. The latest European Media and Marketing Survey results (EMS 2006) released earlier this month, showed that the channel is now seen by 9.6 million viewers annually and 5.9 million viewers a month.
The survey showed that France and Italy saw particularly strong growth, with its weekly viewing figures up by 24% and 25% respectively.
