Top motor industry executives and commentators gathering for the 76th International Motor Show in Geneva, will be the panel guests discussing the key issues on the next edition of CNBC’s Global Players with Sabine Christiansen.
The internal combustion engine displayed 100 years ago at the Motor Show, was a startling innovation but today, with oil reserves dwindling and gas prices soaring, it's looking increasingly obsolete. Is the auto industry prepared for the ‘end of oil’? At the same time Western manufacturers are being overtaken by high speed competitors from Asia offering not only cheaper, but also more innovative models. How can they possibly compete with prices and wages in China and India?
These are some of the critical issues and trends that will be discussed by a distinguished panel of auto executives and industry experts. The panel will consist of:
Thomas LaSorda - CEO and President Chrysler Group and Board of Management DaimlerChrysler
Ravi Kant - COO, Tata Motors
Jean Ziegler - United Nations, Special Rapporteur
Angus Mackenzie - Editor in Chief, Motor Trend magazine
Sabine Christiansen said of her second show with CNBC, “The auto industry remains at the core of many economies around the world, but they are now under increasing pressure from newer and more flexible markets. I look forward to discussing the issues with key players in the industry and giving CNBC viewers around the world with the insight and analysis that they need to act on.”
Sabine Christiansen, Germany’s most watched and most important political television presenter, is the host of CNBC Europe’s new 12 part series, Global Players with Sabine Christiansen. This was followed by an insightful panel discussion on Iran’s nuclear programme with Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the Russian parliament’s international affairs committee; James Woolsey, former CIA director; Zhang Zhijun, senior Chinese Communist official and Pierre Lelouche, French MP and chairman of the NATO parliamentary assembly.
