Pack a good book, charge up your Ipod and get ready for delays AND cancellations. As of 9 a.m. on Sunday, 300 flights at New York City's three major airports (La Guardia, Kennedy and Newark) had been cancelled with more likely to follow on Monday.
The intensifying Nor'easter has slowed the pace of travel in the northeast to a virtual crawl due to heavy rain and strong winds. There is a traffic management program in effect on Sunday for traffic arriving to John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), La Guardia (LGA), Newark (EWR), Boston Logan (BOS), Philadelphia (PHL) and Teterboro (TEB).
Sunday delays by destination:
JFK is experiencing delays averaging 5.5 hours
EWR: : 2 hours
LGA: 3 hours
BOS: 2 hours
PHL: 2 hours
Some Airlines have prepared for the storm like JetBlue who are waiving change fees for fliers booked Sunday, April 15 and Monday, April 16. The discount airline's policy applies to JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Westchester County (HPN), Stewart International (SWF), and Washington Dulles (IAD). US Airways have also relaxed ticket policies for those travelers affects by the delays and cancellations.
