Computer Chip Sales Rise in April From Last Year But Fall Vs. March

Worldwide sales of semiconductors were $19.9 billion in April, up 1.6% compared with the same month last year, but down 2.1% from March, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said.

Total sales for the first four months of 2007 are up 3.7% compared with the same period of 2006, the SIA said.

SIA President George Scalise said: 'Consumer spending on electronics products appears to have held up reasonably well despite a slowdown in economic growth in some regions of the world.

'Unit demand for semiconductors remains strong. ASPs (average selling prices) have declined more than historical patterns, contributing to global sales that are lower than expected but still ahead of last years record level.'
