BMW's First-Half Sales Up 4.5%

Automaker BMW said Friday that sales in the first six months of the year rose by 4.5%.

The Munich-based company said it sold 730,285 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles from January to June, compared with 698,482 a year earlier.

In June, the carmaker said it sold 150,285 cars worldwide, up 15.1% from the 130,542 it sold in the same month last year.

Sales in China, Russia and western Europe helped push up the June figures, along with demand for the BMW x5 and the 3-Series coupe and convertible models.

In China, sales were up 63.2% last month to 5,925 cars; in Russia, they rose by 77.8% to 1,502 cars. Sales in western Europe rose by 15.9%, with 90,310 cars sold in June.

Shares of BMW were up nearly 2.5% at 49.25 euros in Frankfurt close.
