Jim McCann And 1-800-Flowers: Blooming Into Billions

Can a guy without a business degree and with no formal business training build a company that boasts over $750 Million in annual revenue? For Jim McCann, the CEO of 1-800-Flowers, the answer is yes.

After college, McCann was a social worker and part-time bartender. After a friend suggested that he invest in a local flower shop, McCann scraped together enough money to make it his own and leave social work behind. He tapped into his latent entrepreneurial spirit and built a network of 14 flower shops throughout New York City.

When he bought the 1800-Flowers name for $2.5 million, he inherited almost $7 Million in debt. Jim was convinced he had made the biggest mistake of his life. Against the odds, he masterfully overcame everything and built a flower empire that expects to reach the billion-dollar mark in the near future. Think you can’t do it? I hope Jim McCann’s story makes you think twice!
