See What People Are Saying.. Governors Refusing Stimulus

Evidently not everyone wants cash from the feds. Republican governors appear to be split over whether they will accept all their stimulus money.

According to the New York Times, “a group of Republican governors, (including those in South Carolina, Texas, Louisiana and Alaska) have denounced the stimulus as a bloated behemoth."

And USA Today says, “Two of their concerns: The restrictions on some of the money could further crimp state budgets, and programs created or expanded with stimulus funds may have to be cut once the stimulus funds are depleted."

Some of the money in question is ear marked for unemployed workers. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour says "if we were to take the unemployment insurance reform package, it would cause us to raise taxes on employment when the money runs out, and the money will run out in a couple of years."

However, not all GOP governors are refusing aid.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, also a Republican, said on ABC's "This Week" he would gladly take all the money. And Republican Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty said he would take the money even though he did not agree with the philosophy behind the package.

And that leads to our Reader Poll. Do you think governors who turn down stimulus, are doing it for the right reasons?
