With Orcale reporting earnings on Thursday, what must you know to game this stock?
According to Yun Kim of Broadpoint AmTech, look for Oracle to show a "meaningful increase" in business that stems from a pickup in new projects requiring companies to buy databases.
Because Oracle is considered one of the safest names in technology, Yun Kim expects it will likely be considered one of the names to own when the sector rallies.
ISI Group analyst Heather Bellini is also bullish. She has a $26 price target on the stock and tells Fast Money Oracle guided flat to down 10%. If they do the upper end of that band, I think the stock goes up after earnings, provided guidance is good.
Meanwhile, most agree that Oracle's biggest immediate challenge is convincing European Union regulators to approve its $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc., a deal that appears to be getting closer to receiving the final antitrust clearance it needs to go forward.
The deal has already been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice, and on Monday Oracle pledged to support Sun's database technologies in 10 key areas that European regulators are worried about.
What do the Fast Money traders think?
If Orcale gets the Sun deal through, I think it’s a buy, says Guy Adami.
It seems to me Oracle is targeting its 2008 high of $23.62, muses Joe Terranova.
