Before William "The Refrigerator" Perry scored a touchdown for the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX, prop bets — for the most part — were a fringe offer to gamblers.
But when the 380-pound defensive lineman crossed the goal line, those that cashed in on the longshot odds rejoiced and the bet became national news.
Ever since then, prop bets have not only become good radio talk show fodder, but they've also become a good revenue stream for bookmakers.
The most talked about bet this year, is how many times Archie Manning will be shown by CBS during the game, but bettors are also going to YouTube to try to figure out how long it will take Carrie Underwood to sing the National Anthem.
