Following a brief pullback in the markets, the S&P 500 crossed back above its 50-day moving average in today's trading session. Moving averages, which are widely used to determine trends and smooth out price fluctuations, have played a key role in defining support and resistance numbers since the March lows.
Among the S&P 500 components, 55% continue to trade above their 50-day moving average as of yesterday's close. And as a bullish indicator develops on the markets, could some of the laggards be on track to join the rest of the group?
A screen of S&P index reveals that 48 stocks are currently trading within 1% of their 50-day moving average. Of those stocks, however, only about 13 have upward-sloping trends, signaling that bullish momentum might be forming around these companies.
Below we highlight 10 S&P stocks that have positive slopes since the beginning of the year and traded within 1% of their 50-day moving averages as of the close on February 18.
