Pisani: S&P 500 Closes at 52-Week High

S&P 500 closes Thursday at 1150.24, a 52-week high.

One of the last technical hurdles was breached at the close today, as the S&P 500 closed at its highest level since October 1, 2008. The big-cap index has now joined the Nasdaq, Russell 2000 andS&P Midcap, all at new highs.

How strong has this slow melt-up been? Consider this: the S&P futures have now closed up 10 days in a row. The futures index has done this only once in its history — January 1987.

Eleven consecutive higher closes has never been done. Stay tuned.

Also, Laszlo Birinyi has noted that today was the 12th consecutive day the S&P Midcap has closed to the upside. This occurred only twice before, in January 1991 and November 1996.
