POPS (stocks that jumped higher)
American Superconductor (AMSC) popped 9%. Jefferies raised this maker of high voltage transmission lines to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’. - I think it goes above $30, speculates Joe Terranova.
Flextronics (FLEX) popped 5%. Raymond James upgraded this firm to ‘strong buy’ from ‘outperform’ citing stronger revenue growth. - Not bad, says Tim Seymour.
Perrigo (PRGO) popped 12%. The maker of pharma products closed higher after announcing it will buy PBM Holdings, an infant formula maker, for $808 million. - I think the acquisition benefits the company almost immediately, says Pete Najarian.
Triumph Group (TGI) popped 10%. The maker of aircraft components agreed to buy Vought Aircraft Industries for $984mln.
Harman International (HAR) popped 4%. The maker of audio systems pushed to new yearly highs for no clear reason.
Sequenom (SQNM) popped 20%. Lazard upgraded this diagnostic testing company to ‘Buy’ citing confidence it will create a test for down syndrome.
Allied Irish Banks (AIB) popped 5%. A broader rally in the financials generated a nice tailwind for this Dublin-based bank. - If they get the bad loans off the books I think you're looking at another Citi situation, says Brian Kelly.
DROPS (stocks that slid lower)
Beckman Coulter (BEC) dropped 7%. The maker of biomed testing instruments closed lower after the FDA said it believed the company improperly modified its test for coronary artery disease. - That's a bad thing, says Gary Kaminksy.
China Southern Airlines (ZNH) dropped 5%. Uncertainty over the yuan dragged down this China-based airline.
