Manpower CEO: Employers Hiring 'Very Selectively'

Employers in the US will be hiring “very selectively” in the second quarter of 2010, Jeff Joerres, CEO of global employment services company Manpower , told CNBC.

“They know exactly what they want, they’re focusing on productivity and they’re not going to hire anybody who doesn’t have the perfect skill set that they want,” he added.

Joerres said by waiting an extra month or so to find the perfect candidate, employers are saving money while they wait and eventually boosting their productivity when the ideal hire starts.

According to Manpower’s recently released Employment Outlook Survey, employers in most major labor markets expect to hire in the second quarter of 2010 at a pace equal to, or stronger than, the second quarter of last year.

The survey, which is based on interviews of more than 60,000 employers across 36 countries, found hiring forecasts were mostly positive throughout the Asia Pacific and Americas regions, but were mixed in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
