Gloria Huang, the Red Cross's “Social Media Specialist” recently found herself in a social media jam. Huang, who was sober, thought she was sending a personal tweet about drinking Dog Fish Head beer.
Major organizations have made similar Twitter gaffes, but this particular one turned out well for The Red Cross, which may serve as a model for handling Twitter mistakes in the future.

Instead Huang inadvertently sent this message to the 268,000+ followers who follow @redcross. After several calls, the Red Cross deleted the post about an hour later.
After deleting the accidental post, the Red Cross then tweeted this apology.
The mishap captured the attention of twitter nation, who turned the accidental tweet into a blood drive and fundraiser using the hashtag #gettngslizzerd.
Dogfish Head, the brewer mentioned in the original post, encouraged their followers to get involved.
The Red Cross acknowledged the errant tweet and the impromptu fundraising drive in a post on their blog. See the blog post here.
