Precious metals, particularly gold, should be in investor portfolios because they will outperform over the coming year, Chris Kichurchak, vice president at Strategic Wealth Partners, told CNBC Monday.

"We are looking for precious metals to be outperformers" he said, adding that he is looking for "selective entrance points," starting with gold.

With growth and demand slowing overseas, Kichurchak said he is neutral on base metals, while in the U.S. he expects a "dovish" Federal Reserve to keep interest rates very low, making gold look good by comparison.

Kichurchak's other picks are ETFS Physical Palladium and SPDR Gold Trust .

John Lekas, CEO of Leader Capital, prefers buying the convertible bonds of gold miners.

"It’s a pure play," he said. "We’re a bond fund, so for the people tired of being beat up in [foreign exchange] and the pure equities," the miners' convertible bonds provide a "nice move on the upside and you limit your downside."

His picks are Newmont Mining and Goldcorp .
