The Mill: What the Market's Saying About Diamond Foods and Dish Network

In this feature, the Fast pros breakdown chatter in the market. What’s on their radar and should it be on yours?

Diamond Foods’ Pringle Deal Delayed?

The chatter: Diamond Foods’ purchase of Pringles from Procter & Gamble may be delayed until next year as auditors investigate the company’s payments to walnut growers. The reports sent DMND’s stock plummeting in mid-day trading.

Stephen Weiss thinks it is true. He said the audit committee will be looking at whether the company has been manipulating earnings.

“Depending upon where Diamond Foods’ stock price is,” he said, “they could be assuming or recapitalizing significantly more debt.”

Dish Network Channels Live on the Web?

The chatter: The chairman and CEO of Dish Network is considering offering live cable channels on the Web.

Jon Najarian thinks it is likely.

“It shows the tremendous demand that there is for streaming,” he said. “That’s what Apple’s going to be trying to do.”

Steve Grasso said it also makes the content providers “much more valuable” and suggests looking downstream at Disney and the rest of the movie production companies.
