In the after market shares of Sprint climbed as investors bet AT&T’s failed bid to acquire T-Mobile benefited the number 3 wireless carrier.
But Sanford Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett tells us investors got it wrong.
"Ironically, Sprint would have benefited the most from the deal happening. And now they’re the biggest loser.”
Here’s his thesis:
“It would have been terrific for Sprint to get a more consolidated industry with firmer pricing.” Now that's not happening.
Also Moffett says don't expect Sprint to hook-up with T-Mobile now that AT&T is gone - he doesn't see it.
Look at the The Justice Department complaint closely, he says, the government wants to see 4 players in the market not 3.
“Deutsche Telekom knows that. I think it’s extraordinarily unlikely that DT entertains an offer from Sprint should one even come.”
