One of the most apparent trends was the use of augmented reality in kids' toys. Much of this is based on the increased use of smartphones such as Apple's iPhone and tablets such as the iPad. Toymakers are finally giving retailers a chance to cash in on the app craze by selling toys that can be used with the devices.

Consumer Nation rounded up some of the most interesting examples of how apps are shaping toys and toys are shaping the use of apps in our slideshow, "Gen App: Toys, Tech & Tablets."

We also looked at other highlights from Toy Fair from Mattel,Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, and others. These are some of the items that we expect could be on kids' wish lists this year.

And before we escape toy land, we get nostalgic and look back on 150 years of toys as FAO Schwarz, the nation's oldest toy retailer, celebrates its 150th Anniversary.
