Goldman Sachs - The financial giant named Harvey Schwartz as its new CFO effective the end of January 2013. Current CFO David Viniar will retire and join the company's board. Shares edged lower in extended-hours trading. (Click here for after-hours quote.)

Microsoft - The tech company increased its quarterly dividend by 15 percent to 23 cents a share from 20 cents a share. (Click here for after-hours quote.)

UBS downgraded a handful of railroad companies including CSX , Norfolk Southern and UnionPacific to "neutral" from "buy" and Kansas City Southern to "sell" from "neutral." (Click here for after-hours quotes.)

Newfield announced that it will be selling its remaining Gulf of Mexico assets to W&T Offshore . Total asset sales culminating in the company's exit from the Gulf of Mexico were approximately $300 million. (Click here for after-hours quotes.)

Near the market close, Cameron International , Ensco , National Oilwell Varco , RowanCompanies and Tidewater saw sudden price and volume spikes before quickly falling back to earlier levels.
