3 Reasons S&P Will Hit 1,550 in 6 Months: Pro

A few factors suggest a bullish outlook for the S&P 500 — up to 1,550 in six months and 2,000 in two years — Piper Jaffray Principal Technical Analyst Craig Johnson said Wednesday on CNBC.

“I think we’re going to get there by continuing to see good stocks continue to trade higher. We’re seeing a pretty good, strong rotation. We’re seeing fixed-income markets starting to sell off, and we think that’s ultimately going to see money flowing back to equities,” he said on “Fast Money.”

That, Johnson added, would be a strong positive for equities.

“Just looking at 10-year bond yields over the last year — and actually, two years — what we’ve seen is a higher low and now a higher high get set on 10-year bond yield. To me, that’s the first step of being in an uptrend: Higher highs and lower lows,” he said.

Johnson shared the top three sectors he believed were headed higher.

“We continue to like the technology sector, consumer cyclicals, and we see a lot of relative strength improvement happening in the financial sector,” he said. “We do need to see the financial stocks really engage. They disengaged back in 2007. They’ve really begun to re-engage over the last several months in here, and that’s a real healthy sign for the overall market, so those three sectors is where we’re looking at.”
