Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett Celebrates the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary by Camping with Lehigh Valley Scouts

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett today joined the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania on their fall camping trip to Camp Wood Haven in Pine Grove.  Mrs. Corbett spent the night at the camp and joined the girls in activities that helped them earn their 100th anniversary Girl Scout patch.

Mrs. Corbett is Pennsylvania's Honorary Chair of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary celebration. She is a former Girl Scout and troop leader.

"One of my favorite memories of scouting was going camping," said Mrs. Corbett. "I couldn't pass up the opportunity to join the girls at Camp Wood Haven in my hometown of Pine Grove."

Mrs. Corbett participated in craft projects such as t-shirt decorating and mask making.  She also joined the scouts this morning in their opening flag ceremony.

"We are honored that Mrs. Corbett accepted our invitation to join us at camp," said Karen McGuinness of the Girl Scouts of Eastern PA.  "Many of the Girl Scouts of the Emmaus and Salisbury areas sent handmade invitations to the First Lady's office. We thought maybe we'd get a letter of thanks, hoped for a pit stop, and are still utterly delighted that she has taken the time to join us overnight at camp."

"Girl Scouts has such a positive and long lasting impact on girls," said Mrs. Corbett.

"To be part of an organization that helps to build courage, confidence and character is important to me not only as First Lady, but as a mother and grandmother."
