Boy Scouts of America "Perversion Files" to be Made Public October 18

—Previously confidential files to be published in accordance with Oregon Supreme Court ruling in wake of 2010 sexual abuse case against Boy Scouts of America

PORTLAND, Ore., October 10, 2012In compliance with a 2012 Oregon Supreme Court ruling of Kerry Lewis et al. v. Boy Scouts of America, et al. Jack Doe, a child sexual abuse case against Boy Scouts of America, Kelly Clark of the law firm O'Donnell, Clark & Crew LLP and attorney Paul Mones will release to the public a set of more than 20,000 pages of previously confidential documents created by the Boy Scouts of America concerning child sexual abuse within the organization.

Named the "Perversion Files" by the Boy Scouts, these documents represent reports of Scouts allegedly abused by more than 1,200 different scoutmasters and other adult volunteers between 1965 and 1985. The files were the centerpiece of a 2010 jury verdict of nearly $20 million against the Boy Scouts of America on behalf of a man abused as a boy by a Scoutmaster. The Supreme Court ruled that the documents should be disclosed after they were deemed central to the proof that Boy Scouts of America had known of a serious child sexual abuse problem for decades, and yet had actively concealed the problem from Scouts, their families, and the public. All names and contact information for child abuse victims and those who reported the abuse have been redacted from the files.

Files to be released:

More than 20,000 pages of previously confidential documents detailing cases of alleged sexual abuse by over 1,200 perpetrators within the Boy Scouts of America organization.
