From Wine to Wheels, CrowdConf Crowdsources the World’s Largest Crowdsourcing Conference

Talenthouse contest crowdsources headlining band to perform at CrowdConf

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- From Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer asking the crowd to choose her baby name, to the record breaking logo re-brand, to BMW’s future car design, just about everyone is using crowdsourcing for something. Recent crowdsourcing headlines further validate the importance of CrowdConf, the largest industry event that addresses the latest trends and real world applications of crowdsourcing for businesses, not just baby names.

CrowdConf knows the best way to demonstrate the power of crowdsourcing is to use the crowd to plan the world’s largest crowdsourcing conference, held on October 23 in San Francisco. From sourcing live entertainment, designing the logo, picking speakers, and finding transportation for attendees, here’s how CrowdConf is crowdsourcing its own conference:

The crowd controls the agenda. With All Our Ideas a “suggestion box for the digital days,” CrowdConf collected and prioritized ideas the audience wanted to hear about. Anyone who visited the site could weigh in on topics they thought would be interesting to hear and then the platform votes up and votes down topics based on demand.

The crowd gets creative. Similar to 99 Designs and DesignCrowd, Mycroburst is an online marketplace for graphic design support that held a contest for the CrowdConf 2012 logo. Thousands of graphic designers from the Mycroburst community competed for a cash prize and promotion of the winning design, which can be found here.

The crowd can entertain. CrowdConf decided to liven things with the help of Talenthouse. The search is on to find the most talented band in Northern California to perform at the end of CrowdConf. The contest is running through October 17; video submissions can be uploaded here.

The crowd is in the driver’s seat. Transportation can be a challenge in San Francisco, but thanks to Uber and Lyft there are a number of ways to access Mission Bay Conference Center. Uber relies on partnerships with fleets of black town cars acting as on-demand private drivers. Lyft is a newer peer-to-peer car sharing community that lets drivers connect with passengers needing rides. Both services will be offering discounts to attendees needing transportation to and from the conference.

The crowd helps everyone access CrowdConf. For those that cannot make it to CrowdConf there are two ways to catch the recap. With the help of Poptent, the filmmaking community will create a crowdsourced short movie about CrowdConf. Anyone interested in reading the actual presentations will be able to do so, thanks to, which offers an easy way to upload audio presentations from the conference that will then be transcribed and made available to the public.

The crowd claims “Help is Here.” To say thank to all the speakers and sponsors, a nice bottle of Napa Valley wine from Swanson Vineyards was an easy choice. What makes the gift unique is the crowdsourced label. They are the first major wine brand in America to crowdsource their label. With more than 8,000 submissions, Swanson Food’s famous tagline “Help is Here” was selected as the winning name for their latest edition of house red wine.
