NEW YORK, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve onWednesday sold on the open market $7.8 billion of U.S.Treasuries maturing April 2014 through February 2015, the NewYork Fed said on its website.
Dealers submitted a total of $44.482 billion of Treasuriesfor the sale, the New York Fed said.
The sale was part of the Fed's "Operation Twist" stimulusprogram , which extends the maturity of the central bank'sTreasuries holdings in a bid to lower mortgage rates and otherlong-term borrowing costs.
