TABLE-India's Sept CPI inflation at 9.73 pct y/y

NEW DELHI, Oct 12 (Reuters) - India's annual consumer priceinflation

fell in September to 9.73 percent, drivenby a marginal fall in fuel and food prices, government datashowed on Friday.

India's retail inflation is the highest among the BRICSgroup of emerging economies - Brazil, Russia, China, and SouthAfrica - and is way above what the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)calls its comfort level.

Food prices for consumers fell to 11.6 percent in Septemberfrom 12 percent in August. The consumer price index (CPI)reading for August was at 10.03 percent.

Unlike most central banks, the Reserve Bank of India mainlyuses the wholesale price index for monitoring inflation, asannual consumer price inflation data was only launched thisyear.
