CHICAGO, Sept. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Family Office Exchange (FOX), a global membership organization of single family offices and their advisors, announced a partnership with Foundation Source, the nation's largest provider of support services for private foundations, to offer a pair of workshops on trusteeship and foundation governance, November 19-21 in Dallas, Texas.

The two programs, "The Trustee Workshop: Preparing for Duty as a Family Trustee" and the "Foundation Board Member Workshop" provide hands-on training for family members filling dual roles as a personal trustee for a family trust and as a board member for a family foundation, though each workshop is also available separately.

The Trustee Workshop covers the legal and fiduciary requirements of trustees with additional emphasis on managing investment and distribution policies, and the behavioral aspects of building an effective relationship with the beneficiary. The Foundation Board Workshop covers the legal framework and strategic visioning for the foundation as well as board development and investment oversight. The workshops share a joint session on how taking a long-term perspective helps trustees and foundation board members better discharge their duties. This session will also examine case studies on the interpersonal issues that trustees and foundation board members may encounter.

This event marks the sixth time FOX has offered trustee education in the last three years.

"The trustee is critical to the welfare of the beneficiary and the sustainability of the assets in the trust, and yet there is very little formal education available to prepare trustees for the duties and liabilities of the role," says Sara Hamilton, Founder and CEO of Family Office Exchange. "We feel our workshop fills an ongoing need, and we're really excited to now be able to offer a companion program in the new Foundation Board Member Workshop."

According to King McGlaughon, CEO of Foundation Source, "Private foundation board members, like family trustees, assume a great deal of responsibility in their roles, acting as stewards for a donor's mission and overall legacy. Faced with the complexities of organizational governance, evolving tax codes, and compliance issues, the collaborative workshops with FOX will empower participants to excel in their positions."

The workshops are recommended to family members who serve or are about to serve as a trustee, trust beneficiaries and foundation board members. Additional information is available at
