It's no secret that that the super rich live very different lives than the rest of us. They own bigger homes. They drive better cars. They have the best of everything. But, did you know the super rich even speak their own language?

While shooting "Secret Lives of the Super Rich," CNBC encountered a few words and phrases that mean one thing to us and something totally different to the super rich.

CNBC scores the ultimate VIP access to a world inhabited by only the wealthiest people. "Secret Lives of the Super Rich," premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

What it means to us:

How much it costs to buy a hammer at the hardware store.

Guy 1: Is that hammer on sale for $10?

Sales Associate: Yep, that's the hammer price.

What it means to the super rich:

The price of an item sold at auction when the auctioneer slams the gavel and yells, "sold!" Super-rich bidders know that the auction house charges a hefty fee, usually a percentage of the hammer price, which could add hundreds of thousands of dollars on top of the price.

Super rich guy: Dude, that Ferrari was a steal for $1.3 million.

Super rich car collector: Bro, that's just the hammer price. I wrote the check for almost $1.7 million

What it means to us:

When things go wrong during a medical procedure. Complications can also make a medical condition harder to treat.

Patient: How'd my tonsillectomy go?

Doctor: There were complications. You'll need to come back next week.

What it means to the super rich:

All we really need on a watch to tell time are 12 numbers and two hands. Extra mechanical parts on a watch that are not needed to tell time are called complications. The super rich know that the more complications a watch has, the more expensive it is.

The Patek Philippe "Henry Graves Supercomplication" (pictured left) is a pocket watch with 24 complications that sold at Sotheby's for more than $11 million in 1999.

Supe -rich guy: My watch has so many complications it costs as much as your Ferrari

What it means to us:

A slang term that's short for graffiti.

Girl: Downtown is so gross. ... There's graff everywhere.

What it means to the super rich:

Graff is a luxury jewelry company that specializes in rare colored gemstones and diamonds. Owning Graff jewelry is a super-rich status symbol. Ironically, Graff publishes a magazine about their jewels and it's called "Graffiti."

Super rich girl #1: I love your engagement ring

Super rich girl #2: Um, obvi...it's a Graff.

What it means to us:

How much we would pay to watch Ryan Gosling do ... anything.

Girl #1: Ryan Gosling's abs are amazing in "Crazy Stupid Love."

Girl #2: I would pay the stud fee to see that in person.

What it means to the super rich:

In the world of horse racing, bloodlines are everything. The super rich will pay millions of dollars for yearlings at auction that have never even run a race, simply because they have an award-winning pedigree. The stud fee is the amount a breeder will pay to pair his filly with an award winning stallion. A single stud fee can be tens of thousands of dollars.

Super rich guy: You sold that yearling for a million dollars?

Super rich breeder: Yep, and I only paid about $20,000 for the stud fee.

What it means to us:

To be new and cool.

Girl 1: What should we do tonight?

Girl 2: There's a dj playing downtown that's supposed to be pretty hip.

What it means to the super rich:

Every year super-rich horse lovers attend the Fasig-Tipton yearling auction in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to spend millions of dollars on thoroughbred race horses. The horses are not named at auction, they are only referred to by a number that's placed on their hip.

Super rich girl: Which horse do you think you'll bid on tonight?

Super rich horse lover: I've got my eye on Hip 69, best bloodlines of the bunch.

What it means to us:

Speaking quietly to your friends about something you do not want others to overhear.

Girl 1: He's hot! How did you two meet?

Girl 2: (whispers) Shhhhhh.....please don't tell anyone, we met on Tinder.

What it means to the super rich:

Sometimes the most expensive real estate on the market is never even listed for sale publicly. These secret properties are called whisper listings.

Super rich buyer: I need you to show me the best of the best. Money is no object.

Super rich broker: I do have one whisper listing on the market. It's got 28 bedrooms and we're asking $150 million.

Super rich buyer: Perfect
