On CNBC's "Fast Money, " Horvers said that apparel retailers were not as fortunate, noting that shares of Wal-Mart had retraced to the level of its post-earnings dip. "Target also missed, so it is across the low end, " he added.

"Earnings are very heavily weighted to the fourth quarter, and the consumer's sort of limping in here," Horvers said, adding that there was a correlation between a slowdown of home sales and sales in the retail home category.
"Gross margin continues to be down," he said. "They're feeling the pressures of the Amazons of the world, the online encroachment."
