Survey Results and Blue Ribbon Commission Report on Talent Development.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Association of Corporate Directors will host the 2013 NACD Board Leadership Conference—its largest conference to date—Oct. 13 to 15 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center located at National Harbor, Md. The sold-out event features more than 150 in-demand speakers, including former Sen. Olympia Snowe, currently serving as a director on the board of T. Rowe Price Group, and Mary Jo White, chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, formerly director at NASDAQ.
The NACD 2013 Board Leadership Conference offers corporate directors, board chairs, C-suite executives, shareholders, legislators and regulators an opportunity to gain insights on key issues in corporate governance that they will not hear anywhere else. Session topics include the impact of big data on business, risk oversight and the shifting landscape of social media. Nearly 1,000 directors from companies such as JetBlue, Akamai Technologies, JPMorgan Chase, Ford and Union Pacific will attend along with governance professionals.
Additional topics include the most pressing subjects in corporate governance today, from cyber security risk to shareholder activism to potential regulatory action in 2014. Other keynote speakers include Rajendra Sisodia, author of seven books including "Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business," and Michael Woodford, the whistleblower and former CEO of Olympus Corp. in the 2011 financial scandal.
Two flagship NACD publications will be released at the conference:
- The Blue Ribbon Commission Report titled "Talent Development: A Boardroom Imperative" combines insights from more than 25 experienced public company directors, leading governance professionals and experts in human resources on strategies for effective board oversight of talent development. In addition to employee training and retention, the report also focuses on the importance of CEO succession planning, a trending topic in business on the heels of several notable CEO exits such as Microsoft's Steve Ballmer and J.C. Penney's Ron Johnson.
- The 2013-2014 Public Company Governance Survey provides benchmarking data on a wide range of board practices, as well as insights into the top issues for directors in the coming year. Based on in-depth responses from more than 1,000 public company directors and the proxy data from over 2,700 public companies, the report also features a special section on executive compensation, which is segmented into 24 industry sectors.
