GULFPORT, Miss., Oct. 2, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- American Truck Showrooms ( is a Class 8 truck dealership with locations in both Atlanta, Georgia and The Mississippi Gulf Coast. Charlie Claburn has been a manager with American Truck Showrooms for several months. Previous to that Charlie had been a successful driver himself with over 20 years of experience.

In fact, Charlie was a customer of American Truck Showrooms ( and liked the company so much that he joined as a part of the management team. In this capacity, Charlie provides a first hand understanding of the challenges today that the truck driver faces. This has helped American Truck Showrooms in building its program for today's driver.

A part of American Truck Showrooms' ( belief is that it must give back to the community it is a part of. While this includes the local Atlanta and Mississippi Gulf Coast communities, it also includes the larger community of the truck drivers.

Charlie had put together Convoy for the Kids seven years ago; the Convoy is a truck parade and tractor pull at Fonda Fairgrounds, New York on Labor Day weekend in September. September is known as national childhood cancer awareness month. Convoy for the Kids raises thousands of dollars each year for childhood cancer awareness. Most of the funds collected go towards treatment costs, toys for children in the hospital, and research for finding a cure. The Children's Miracle Network Hospital is a primary beneficiary along with other local children's hospitals. Some of the proceeds are even contributed to the trucking industry for families in need of financial assistance. Funds are also donated to assist disabled people and area schools that catered to the disabled. This was in response to the state funding cuts that hit the disabled especially hard. (

American Truck Showrooms ( is supportive of the Convoy and helped sponsor Charlie in his trip up to New York State and is pleased to be a part of another successful event this past August.

The Convoy parade was made up of large numbers of emergency vehicles, tractor trailers and pickup trucks. With 150 trucks in total, they all paraded and there was also competitions including appearance and the Big Rig Semi Pull.

American Truck Showrooms ( is also very involved with the Boys and Girls Club and hosts an annual Christmas Party with over 200 children along with Santa Claus and his elves in attendance. In the past they have also hosted the Boy Scouts and offered an apprenticeship program for high school students.

The Company believes that other companies that have been successful should take a little time and money and help out some of those that have not been as fortunate. American Truck Showrooms is glad that through Charlie Claburn, they could extend this goodwill to the Convoy for the Kids. (
