No. 5 Ferris Bueller's Ferrari

Source: Mecum Auctions

Sold for: $235,000

Who built it: Neil Glassmoyer and Mark Goyette

Remember that sick red Ferrari that Ferris, Cameron and Sloane drove around on their famous day off ... that wasn't a real Ferrari. Neil Glassmoyer and Mark Goyette, built the three Ferrari replicas to be used in the film. Who would want to crash a real Ferrari through a glass window and into a ravine, right?

One of the three red replicas was recently sold at Mecum Auctions in Monterey, Calif. Glassmoyer bought the car back from Paramount after filming more than 25 years ago and restored it himself. He says this particular car was used in the famous jump scene in Chicago and it was also in the scene where Ferris throws his hat out on the highway. One lucky bidder took the car home for $235,000.

No. 4 Noah's Ark

Estimated cost: $4 million

Who built it: Dutch businessman Johan Huibers

Johan Huibers had a dream back in 1992 that the Netherlands, where he lives, flooded. He says the dream inspired him to build a full-scale replica of Noah's Ark, using the description of the boat from the Bible as his guide. The ark is a floating museum where visitors can learn more about the story from the Bible. There is also a restaurant, two large amphitheaters and some small animals on board.

A spokesperson from the Huibers family told CNBC the boat cost $4 million and took Huibers (who is a carpenter himself) and three other builders more than three years to build. At least 100,000 people have toured the boat since it opened its doors in July of 2012.

No. 3 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4

Price: $7.5 million

Who is building it: RGE Robert Gulpen Engineering in Germany

Yes, if you're a millionaire you can go into a Lamborghini dealership and buy an Aventador. You can even get that lambo wrapped in gold, but until recently there were no Lamborghini's carved out of solid gold. Robert Wilhelm Gulpen is solving that problem. He's building a replica of a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 carved out of a 500-kilogram block of solid gold and adding some platinum and gemstones for a little extra bling.

Just don't expect to be cruising down the highway in this flashy ride unless you're tiny, really, really tiny. This super-rich replica is so small it could fit in a carry-on bag. Of course, what this model car lacks in horse power, it makes up for in price. The starting price at auction will be $7.5 million. The car hasn't even been fully built yet so that the final bidder can customize their au-some ride.

No. 2 The Palace of Versailles

AP

Estimated cost: $100 million

Who is building it: Westgate Resorts founder and CEO David Siegel and his wife, Jackie.

David and Jackie Siegel were on their honeymoon in France when they took a tour of the Palace of Versailles. The couple fell in love with the place but moving in was obviously out of the question. That's OK, David told Jackie he would build their own version of the royal castle back home.

The house is still under construction but when it's finished there will be 13 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, 11 kitchens, a movie theater, a bowling alley, a spa, a roller rink and a garage for 20 cars. The master suite in the home is 6,000 square feet, while the average size of a new home in the U.S. is 2,642 square feet.

"Nobody needs a house like that and I think a lot of people are jealous," Siegel told CNBC. "There's a hedge fund operator in New York that bought a Picasso for $120 million. Nobody said that guy's crazy." Siegel hopes the home will be finished in time for his 80th birthday in 2015.

No. 1 The Titantic

Titanic II
Image source: Clive Palmer | Blue Star Line

Estimated cost: $600 million

Who is building it: Australian mining mogul Clive Palmer

Clive Palmer wanted to go on a luxury cruise but not on an ordinary megayacht like other super rich sea lovers. Palmer wants to set sail on the Titantic. Only thing is, that ship hit an iceberg and sank in 1912. It now lies on the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. No problem, Palmer's going to build an exact model for an estimated $600 million.

Palmer told CNBC 16 people have offered to pay between $750,000 and $1 million per cabin to be on the ship's maiden voyage. The ship is being built in China and Palmer says it should be ready in 2016. We hope the trip goes better this time around.
