Premier, Inc. Employees Donate 3,000 Hours of Service in Charlotte Area

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Premier, Inc. (Nasdaq:PINC) employees provided 3,000 hours of service to local organizations in the Charlotte area on Tuesday.

As a part of its Values Conference, an annual all-employee educational event, Premier partners with local nonprofit volunteer service organization Hands On Charlotte each year to coordinate a half day of activities to support those in need. Launched in 1998, Premier's annual volunteer day gives its more than 1,500 employees the opportunity to donate their services to the Charlotte community where most live and work.

"Our Values Conference allows Premier's employees to focus on our company's values. One of these is our commitment to give back to the community, which helps to make this conference very special," said Susan DeVore, Premier president and CEO.

Over the past decade, Premier employees have donated nearly 40,000 hours of service at this event. This year, they helped with various projects at 32 organizations across the Charlotte metro area, including:

  • Helping teachers shop/check out for school supplies at Classroom Central;
  • Processing clothing and housewares donations for Crisis Assistance Ministry;
  • Maintaining the horse barns and new residential treatment center on Hinds Feet Farm;
  • Processing footwear donations at Samaritan's Feet; and
  • Sorting food donations at Second Harvest Food Bank.

"Having Premier employees volunteer for projects across Charlotte is a tremendous help to local schools and nonprofits," said Eric Law, executive director of Hands On Charlotte. "This is the busiest time of year for a lot of these organizations, and they need all the help they can get. Premier employees always bring a lot of energy to the job, and it's that kind of attitude that really helps to strengthen our community."

Employees volunteer as part of Premier's commitment to partner with the many organizations around the nation that are devoted to community improvement. The program encourages direct community service by both individuals and teams.

As a part of its corporate social responsibility program, Premier provides paid time off for employees that wish to volunteer on other days during the year. The company will donate money to approved nonprofits for hours employees volunteer outside of the normal work day. Premier's social responsibility program also:

  • Allows employees to wear jeans to work every day on behalf of their efforts to raise money for national charitable organizations.
  • Matches 50 percent of employee contributions to approved nonprofit organizations.
  • Recognizes innovative not-for-profit organizations that meet the needs of the medically underserved and those outside the healthcare mainstream with its Monroe E. Trout Premier Cares Award.
