Twitter founders are in the money as shares soared on its first day of trading.

But as Twitter embarks as a public company against social media giants Facebook and LinkedIn, some question the wisdom of owning stock in a company that hasn't turned a profit yet.

But Ben Popper, business editor at The Verge, told CNBC's Julia Boorstin that he's not a doubter. Although it may have more risks than other social media names, he said, Twitter is a young company with huge potential.

"For investors hungry for growth," he said, "you don't get better than Twitter."
